Wetherall Priory Cumberland

The subscriber's advise of the excellent information
available in the registers of the ancient priories of
Cumberland is correct. It should be noted that the
Priory of St Bee and the Priory of Wetherall were both
cells of the Abbey of St Mary York, and that the
Abbey's register also includes considerable
information.

There is an enormous amount of information 1050-1250
regarding families such as the Meschines, Dunbars,
Duncans, Galloways, Kendalls, Lancasters, Lasceys,
Busells, and many others. As I stressed in an earlier
email, the Cronicum Cumbriae (Wetherall Priory "V")
contains a wealth of information.

Other excellent reference documents/texts include:

Chartulary St John Pontefract (2 Vol)
Chartulary Penwortham Priory (Hulton)
Whalley Coucher (4 Vol)
Chartulary Cockersand (2 Vol)
Lancashire Plea Rolls and Charters (Farrer)
History of Lancaster.

It is unfortunate that there is so little discussion
relating to topics addressing the North of England.
Sadly this group responds either with deathly silence
or the inevitable rudeness and trouble making and
malicious remarks of the escaped lunatics in Australia
and the USA.
