Perry/Pery/Perye family of south-west England

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any information on the Perry/Pery/Perye/Perrye
(etc) family of south west England. At the moment my research is focused
upon Roger Pery of Exeter, Devon, who became a freeman of Exeter in 1532 and
who is the ancestor of the Irish Perrys and Perys. He seems to have had a
cousin called John Piry, who lived in Warminster, Wiltshire and who died in
1555. Another relation of Roger (probably his brother) was William Perry of
Breamore, Hants, who died in 1547.

Tha family held land [from wills] in Breamore, Warminster, Chewstoke
(Somerset), Brokehampton (Gloucs or Herefordshire) and Syssiche St Mighell
(Gussage St Michael, Dorset??). Land passed between the cousins through
wills and it appears that the move to Devon was later and that the family
originated from either Wiltshire or Hampshire (or at least had land there a
generation prior to those we know about).

I have got hold of all relevant PCC wills and I've looked at the Heralds
visitations for Devon (which refer to a seemingly unconnected family of
Membury). Has anyone come across references to this family in their
research? Roger didn't seem to leave a will (or maybe it was destroyed in
Devon record office) so I'm stuck!

Thanks

Vicki Perry
