This Gospatric died in 1073.

This would be anachronistic - according to Roger of Howden, Gospatric was
given Dunbar and some neighbouring lands in Lothian to provide for himself
and his household until more prosperous times returned: this was after he
had come back from Flanders to Scotland following deprivation of his earldom
of Northumbria by William the Conqueror. But Gospatric died shortly after
this ("sed non multo post"), so that his connection to Dunbar was apparently
considered temporary to the end of his life. His descendants were earls of
Dunbar for some centuries, but the family did not take its name from the
place until well after Gospatric's time.
