Chancery Depositions (Perry family- S.E.England)

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have come across a family tree of the
Perry family, written in the 20th century. However, it has as its source:
"14 May 1670 Chancery Depositions before 1714 817/33". Would anyone be able
to tell me how to find this original record? I realise this isn't strictly
medieval, but I know it's the kind of records you use in the medieval
period, so I hope it is ok to ask.

I am researching the Perry/Pery/Perye/Perrye (etc) families of the south
east of England, especially Devon, Wiltshire and Hampshire. I'm only really
beinning on my research, firstly by getting hold of all the early wills and
seeing how the families are connected, but if anyone has come across this
family I would like to hear from you.

Best wishes

Vicki Perry

I could just give you the reference, but as you want to know HOW to find it
..... here goes ...

First, you need a clue; and the best is to read TNA research leaflet on
Chancery suits:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/cata ... fletID=165

In section 2.2. there is an explanation of 'Depositions'. This is likely to
be a Country Deposition (C 22).

Now, go to the TNA search, type in Perry in the top box and C 22 in the
bottom and hit search:

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/cata ... ch.asp?j=1

You'll get a long list. The one you want isn't on the first page. Click 2 at
the bottom, and there it is 8 hits down.

Click on Perryman v Perry.

If you go back, you'll notice that there is more. Peryam v Perry C 22/687/27
and Periam v Perry C 22/817/55 which I would guess are the same lengthy
case.
