Spanish Question

Legg inn av Leo van de Pas » 07 mar 2007 00:29:43

Pedro the Cruel, King of Castile has a son by his illegal wife Juana de Castro, she died 21 August 1374 in Galicia, daughter of Pedro Fernandez de Castro, Lord of Lemos and Sarria, and Isabella Ponce de Leon.

Was Juana also married to Don Diego Lopez de Haro, Lord of Orduna and Valmaseda, or did she have a full sister probably by the same name?

With many thanks.

According to Isabel Pérez de Tudela y Velasco, 'Las mujeres en la vida del
rey Pedro I de Castilla' in _Anuario de estudios medievales_ 19 (1989), p
378, Juana was the widow of Diego López de Haro at the time of her marriage
to King Pedro. This was irregular on his side, not on hers: Pedro had two
previous wives (one secret, one recognised) still living at the time.
