Dear John Ravilious, Douglas Richardson and others,

The Ancient Petitions at A2A include one of Roger Comyn dated around 18 March
1322 (after the fall of Thomas, Earl of Lancaster) pleading for assistance in
recouping the losses that He suffered of his lands in Scotland SC 8/4/188.
He holds the manors of Wetherby and Borourghbridge , West Riding, York, perhaps
in right of his wife as Patent Rolls January 1307 touches on an
investigation into the death of William Scot, yeoman to Duncan de Farendragh juxta
Wetherby (presumedly the first husband of a certain Lady Frendraught alluded to in
the next petition ) SC/174/8665 which is of an Agnes , widow of a John Burdon
pleading to be assisgned to Margery, Lady Frendraught, who is probably the same
as the Lady Frendraught who married Roger Comyn. Lady Frendraught took 60
marks from Bristol and Northamptonshire of which the rent of the Exchequer is
Twenty marks and that the said Agnes Burdon was to be paid 20 marks from the
Exchequer per year for her sustenance as She suffered great loss of lands in
Scotland, taking her pay from the Exchequer which payment had rarely been made.bY
12 December 1318 Agnes Burdon was included in an enrollment for 20 pounds by
the Exchequer.
Sincerely,
James W Cummings
