All,

This has, perhaps, already been discussed. I recently ran across a reference to the Montalts in the Visitation of Cheshire 1580. Glover, Flower. 1882. This indicates that John de Montalt married first Elena relict of Robert Stockport and secondly, Millicent Cantilupe.
However, in the A2A records of Prestbury Cheshire, I find:
Deed.-ref.DDS/20-date: 11 July 1287 Parties 1. John de Monte Alto and Elena de Stokep't his wife. This referenced John descends from the hereditary seneschals of Chester, son of Roger de Montalt and Cecilia de Aubigny of Mold and Hawarden.
This cannot be the same John Montalt who married Millicent Cantilupe since her first husband is estimated to have died between 1255 and 1267.
Could someone clarify this, please?

Thank you.
Pat
