This book: "Somersetshire Parishes: A Handbook of Historical Reference
to All Places in the County" published 1905
http://books.google.com/books?vid=OCLC0 ... EY%22+dyer

Page 109 shows William Dyer immigrant to America the son of George
Dyer and Dorothy Shirley.

The visitation of Somersetshire 1623 shows William Dyer son of George
Dyer and d. of Shirley.

The visitation of Leicester 1619 gives the Shirley family of Staunton
Harold who has descents from Henry II.

Anyone have any information on this line? William Dyer's wife has
many myths surrounding her ancestry, but this Dyer ancestry seems
reasonable.

And is William Dyer born c.1587 the father of William Dyer baptized
1609 as one might infer from the source above?

Don't know. You'll have to read the article in RIHSC 30:23.
