Dear Newsgroup ~

In the same archival records in which King Charles II of Navarre
referred to Sir Eustache d'Auberchicourt as "très chiere et féal
cousin," he similarly referred to two other individuals as his
cousins, namely Jean III de Grailly, Captal de Buch, and Jean I, Count
of La Marche {References: Documents des Archives de la Chambre des
Comptes de Navarre (Bibliothèque de l'École des hautes etudes 84)
(1886): 87-88, 148-149].

King Charles II was related to Jean III de Grailly, Captal de Buch, in
the 3rd and 3rd degrees of kndred (or if you prefer, second cousins)
by virtue of their common descent from Philippe of Artois, seigneur of
Conches, died 1298, as shown below.

1. Philippe of Artois, seigneur of Conches, died 1298.
2. Marguerite of Artois, married Louis, Count of Evreux.
3. Philippe III, King of Navarre.
4. Charles II, King of Navarre, died 1387.

1. Philippe of Artois, seigneur of Conches, died 1298.
2. Jeanne of Artois, married Gaston I of Foix.
3. Blanca of Foix, married Jean II de Grailly.
4. Jean III de Grailly, Captal de Buch, died 1376.

King Charles II was also doubly related to Count Jean I, Count of La
Marche, in the 4th and 4th degrees of kndred (or if you prefer, third
cousins) by virtue of their common descent from [Saint] Louis, King
of France (died 1270), as shown below.

1. [Saint] Louis, King of France, died 1270.
2. Philippe III, King of France.
3. Louis, Count of Evreux.
4. Philippe III, King of Navarre.
5. Charles II, King of Navarre, died 1387.

1. [Saint] Louis, King of France, died 1270.
2. Agnès of France, married Robert II, Duke of Burgundy.
3. Marguerite of Burgundy, married Louis X, King of France.
4. Jeanne of France, married Philippe III, King of Navarre.
5. Charles II, King of Navarre, died 1387.

1. [Saint] Louis, King of France, died 1270.
2. Robert of France, Count of Clermont-en-Beauvaisis.
3. Louis I, Duke of Bourbon.
4. Jacques I, Count of La Marche.
5. Jean I, Count of La Marche, died 1393.

As we can see, in both instances, King Charles II's other kinsmen were
near related to him in blood.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
