[OT] Medieval English coins

Legg inn av Rocky3 » 04 feb 2007 20:53:06

Hello!
I'm trying to understand English Medieval monetary system.
I'm referring to the end of the XII and the beginning of the XIII century.
I found this page:
http://medievalwriting.50megs.com/whyread/weight.htm
but I think there is such a confusion.
Can you write me a "hierarchy" of the various currencies, with correct
names? I think they are variable according to the time and the place, but
are there some "universal", costant elements?
I found also this:
http://snipurl.com/19c0r
It seems to be a coin intruduced by Richard I, called "Denier". Which was
its worth? Was it used?
Can you suggest me any site for further informations?
Thank you anyway!

The link that you provided already does that. What else do you
require?

It is not an English coin. It is French. Richard had extensive lands
in France.
