Jermyn of Rushbrooke, and correcting Dorothy Warner of Milde

Wikipedia has an article on Henry Jermyn, 1st Earl of St Albans (cr abt
1660). It states he is third son of Thomas Jermyn of Rushbrooke and that Henry was
born about 1604 and d 1684 unmarried.

Upon his death, "the barony" meaning I think "Baron Jermyn of Edmundsbury"
went "by special remainder" to his nephew Thomas (1633-1703)

Leo doesn't have this connection, but today I was perusing the Parish
Registers of Rushbrooke looking for something else when I happened to record this

Thomas Jermyn bap 10 Nov 1633, Father Thomas
For baptism see
http://www.familysearch.org - IGI - British Isles - Batch P012971

This same father Thomas, evidently, had six other children from 2 Oct 1630 up
to Mar 1645. Leo shows his wife as Rebecca Rodway, so I'm presuming they may
have married just before 1630

I have a caution that his *father* also Thomas is given a death date of 1645
at wikipedia, which is when the other? Thomas stops having children. So I'm
not sure I have it quite straight yet.

Leo gives the wife of Thomas Jermyn of Rushbrooke (b 1573) as Catherine
Killigrew

I had already recorded a baptism at Rushbrooke
Robert Jermyn bap 13 Sep 1601 Father Thomas
For baptism see
http://www.familysearch.org - IGI - British Isles - Batch P012971

This Robert is of the right date and place to be one of the two elder
brothers of Henry 1st Earl of St Albans. It's possible the other older brother is
that Thomas who I have as the father to the Thomas who next become Baron Jermyn
of Edmundsbury

One of the children for Thomas Jermyn and (presumably) Rebecca Rodway is
Judith Jermyn bap 20 Oct 1639

There is an older Judith (unknown) Jermyn having children at Rushbrooke, they
are the parents of
Robert bap 1 Apr 1582
Dorothy bap 13 Sep 1584
Susanna bap 18 Oct 1590

and presumably also the Thomas bap 12 Feb 1573 who has no parents listed in
his record.

Susanna would then be identical to that Susanna who m 21 Mar 1612/3 Sir
William Hervey, Knt, MP of Ickworth. The chronology is fine she would be 25 when
John Hervey their heir was born.

Robert Jermyn bap 1 Apr 1582 would appear quite likely to be identical to
that Robert who on 10 Mar 1603 at Rushbrooke married Dorothy Warner.

For marriage see
http://www.familysearch.org - IGI - British Isles - Batch M012971

Robert Jermyn as father appears with
Anne Jermyn bap 21 Sep 1606
Elizabeth Jermyn bap 12 jun 1608

and no more.
Which works out quite nicely for Dorothy to next marry as "Dorothie Jermyn"
to Butts Bacon

For marriage to Butts Bacon as "Dorothie Jermyn" see
http://www.familysearch.org - IGI - British Isles - Batch M012301

They married on 4 Jul 1611 at Culford, Sussex

Dorothy Warner is given as the daughter of Sir Henry Warner of Mildenhall,
but I have nothing further on her ancestry.

Dorothy Warner and Butts Bacon were the parents of Henry Bacon, 2nd Bart of
Mildenhall
Butts is the son of Sir Nicholas Bacon, 1st Bart of Redgrave (from 1611),
eldest son of Nicholas Bacon (Keeper of the Great Seal) by his wife Jane Fernley

I show an additional connection between the Bacons and the Killigrews:

Butts Bacon's 1st cousin Mary Woodhouse (dau of Henry Woodhouse and Ann
Bacon) married
1) Robert Killigrew of Arwenack, Falmouth, Cornwall (cir 1579/1580-1633 and
brother to the Catherine Killigrew who married Thomas Jermyn), Vice
Chamberlain, with several children including:
- Catherine Killigrew (1618-1689) who married Thomas Stanley (believed to be
related to the Earls of Derby).
- Elizabeth Killigrew (1622-1681), Viscountess Shannon
2) Thomas Stafford, 2nd Baronet (d.1654).
