from a 1775 entry in _Diary and Letters_ of Gov. Hutchinson of
Massachusetts:

"We set out from Bath about 8 for Warminster ... I found here a
gentleman by the name of Middlecot, whose grandfather went over to
England [from America] near 80 years ago to take possession of an
estate wch the grandson now lives upon. It's a good house he lives in,
with elegant garden: small. The grandfather was uncle to Middlecot
Cooke [of Boston], and Mrs Bouchier was his sister ..."

Two marriages at Warminster I've found interesting are--

Saint Denys, Warminster, Wiltshire
--John Middelcott to Mary Guifforde, 20 Jan. 1560
--Edward Middlecott to Margaret Gifford, 26 March 1668

An interesting and rather complete account of Edward Middlecott, who
returned to England, is found in the Mayflower Families silver book for
James Chilton, of whom he was a great-grandson:

44 EDWARD MIDDLECOTT4 (Sarah Winslow3, Mary2 Chilton, James1) b.
prob. Boston ca. 1676 [Savage appears in error when he says he came
with father from England]; d. Warminster, Wilts., England, bur. 15 Nov.
1727.
He m. in England, MARY -----. She m. (2) ----- Oliver.
Edward returned to England after learning the merchant's trade,
and "purchased his Father's Life in an estate at Worminster of L300
per annum, which was entailed to him by his Uncle."
Mary Middlecott [his grandmother] of Warminster, widow of Edward
Middlecott 1618-1660 of Warminster, in a will, dated 26 April 1700
proved 20 May 1701, bequeathed "unto the servants that are now in
service with my grandson Edward Middlecott of Warminster" who is "son
of Richard Middlecott," and appointed this same Edward to be her
executor.
Edward Middlecott of Warminster [brother of Richard3 and so uncle
of Edward4] in a will, dated 2 Nov. 1686 admin. 1 Feb. 1704, left "all
remaining property at Warminster ... on trust: for use of my brother
Richard Middlecott for life, and after his decease to his eldest son
and his heirs ..." In a revision of the will "Whereas I purchased
property of the Manor of Furnax Grove to the heirs of John Middlecott &
William Middlecott, after the death, surrender or forfeiture of Mary
Middlecott, my mother, and of me, the said Edward Middlecott, my will
is that my brother Richard Middlecott shall have the sole advantage of
the said copyhold estate ... and the said Richard Middlecott shall come
and reside at the Mansion House wherein I do now dwell. No action to
be taken regarding surrender of copyhold without the consent of said
Richard Midlecott."
Administration of the estate of Edward Middlecott of Warminster
deceased was granted 17 March 1728 to Edward Middlecott his son, "Maria
Olliver" widow and relict having renounced the administration.
