That John Newdigate, second husband of Elizabeth Lovett was

Elizabeth Lovett is said to have married three times.
To wit
1) Anthony /Cave/ , Esq of Chiceley, Bucks.; third son of Richard (or Roger)
Cave by his wife Margaret Saxby. This Anthony was living in 1544 by had died
before Elizabeth married
2) John /Newdigate/ , Esq of Harefield, MP Middlesex 1571 son of John
Newdigate by his wife Anne Hilton
3) Richard /Weston/ , Justice of the Common Pleas 1559-; Second son of John
Weston possibly the same who married Cecilia Neville

However, husband two can not have been that John Newdigate who was MP
Middlesex 1571
The reason is that, by Anthony Cave, Elizabeth left four daughters. One of
these Martha Cave (twin to her sister Anne) married John Newdigate, Gent of
Arbury (1543-1591/2) and among their children, we find

"Elizabeth born 5 Feb 1568[/1569]" and her godmother is stated as "Elizabeth
WESTON, her grandmother"

Thus if Elizabeth Lovett married secondly to John Newdidate, he was dead by 5
Feb 1569 and so could not be MP in 1571

Who stated it? Your logic is fine if those are the actual words used in
1569, but not if it was written after she had remarried.

[this is the same Elizabeth and not a paternal grandmother?]
