Dear Doug,

Thanks for your post of the other day, concerning Emma de Grey
and other Grey areas (and individuals) [1].

Emma de Grey, wife of Sir William de Huntingfield, was of course
a half-sister of Sir Reynold de Grey of Ruthin (d. 1308) and Nichole
de Grey. Her mother was Emma de Glanville, from whose East Anglian
inheritance Emma de Grey had her maritagium. Emma de Glanville's
father, as identified in CP, was Geoffrey de Glanville, of Alderton,
Suffolk, Bacton, Norfolk &c. He is also recorded in the Norfolk Feet
of Fines in 1240 [2], and is therein identified as son of Bartholomew
de Glanville. He was apparently a descendant (if not the heir male)
of Bartholomew de Glanville, of Bacton, Norfolk, the sheriff of
Norfolk and Suffolk (1170-1175) and kinsman of the well-known
Justiciar, Ranulf de Glanville.

Cheers,

John *

Dear John ~

Thank you for your good post. Much appreciated.

I might point out that Nichole de Grey, wife of Robert de Tateshale,
also had a sister, Emme de Grey, wife of Sir William de Huntingfield,
Knt. (died 1290), of Huntingfield, Byng Hall (in Pettistree), and
Mendham, Suffolk, East Bradenham, Norfolk, etc. Emme's maritagium
included the manor of Bacton, Norfolk and the advowson of Alderton,
Suffolk. For further particulars of the Huntingfield family, see
Douglas Richardson, Magna Carta Ancestry (2005).

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
