First off , I realize theres alot of cousins, and collateral relatives
of the Good Gov.Thomas Dudley , but he only had one male out of all
three marriage that bore a son/heir and that was Rev. Samuel Dudley.
Rev. Samuel Dudley of his three marriage he was in also only had one
son to have male issue amongst several children and that was Steven
Dudley ,and his oldest son having a male heir was his oldest son of
same name of James married to Mercy Folsom oldest male and heir had the
same name James and married Deborah Bean , then next another James only
son to have a male heir married to Miss Glidden whos oldest son to have
a male heir was again James who was married to Rozanna Nichols and were
the first to leave Brentwood, New Hampshire where the previous
generations up to Samuel lived, and migrated to Crown Point ,
Ticonderoga, Essex Co. New York where thery are burried and the rest of
the generations of Dudley heirs lived up until the 1900s where they
then went to California to live near the Pacific west. Gordon born in
1904 who only child born to James Dudley and Alta Searles and his lving
heir from the last living son to have a heir and a only child and a
female.this can all be verified by the fam. search org. and Morman
church under puplished Censuss, taken in Crown Point and by local
newpapers historical ariticals , by headstones and ancestral accts
written in history of the area where they lived and owned ranches,
farms, lumber mills, etc. though there are thousands of Gov. T Dudleys
collarteral decendants of Gov. T. Dudley as Dean Dudley mentioned you
have to be of this exact decent of males heirs only which limit the
heirs down to about 1 , 2 possibly 3 total heirs. The Govenor did not
die until 1653 was born some 30 to 40 years before Frances Dudley and
indeed before the Title could have been givien to Gov. Thomas Dudley
being decendent from a senior male heir, and in some accounts the
Dudleys thought extinct my question is how does a person that is the
heir of Thomas Dudley apply to have the Barony sent throw the proper
sucession back down to the male prodigy and male heirs of sucession?
Perhaps the governor didnt apply for the Barony or have use for the
estates? Can someone tell me what the prodocal is to apply for the
Dudley Title to be revised into the male heirs to them. and who to
contact ie: address etc. Thank you so much for you attention.

This has just been discussed here. Correctly for all such baronies by
writ, that of Dudley passed to the only granddaughter and heiress of
Edward, 5th Baron Dudley, who died in 1643.
That having been said, it is still interesting that *if* Marshall Kirk's
speculation on his ancestry is correct, Governor Thomas Dudley would in
1643 have become the heir male of John, 3d Baron Dudley, but it would
have been meaningless in terms of the barony. Heirs male of prior
holders have no claim to a barony by writ, which can perfectly well
pass to or through an heiress of a deceased incumbent. Obviously no one
can petition anyone either to retroactively alter the entirely correct
terms of descent of an ancient barony by writ, or to lay any sort of
claim based on something that's widely disseminated but only a theory.
Now, though it is wrong to state that only one son of Gov. Thomas, Rev.
Samuel-2, had male heirs (so did Gov. Joseph-2, whose senior male
descendants were responsible for the 19th-century silliness about
claiming the title of John Dudley, duke of Northumberland), this post
does appear to trace the senior male line correctly for a while.
Marston Watson's 5-generation study of descents from Gov. Thomas Dudley
should be the definitive work for the early part. I don't know if
anyone after Dean Dudley has prepared a good study of these later New
Hampshire & Crown Point Dudleys. Obviously only one of them (not "1, 2,
possibly 3") is the current heir male to Gov. Thomas.
