In the 1890 NEHGR, Arthur Eaton wrote of David Hamilton of Maine, that
he "was, undoubtedly, born in Scotland, and since he named one of his
sons Gabriel, it is about certain that he belonged to the Westburn
Hamiltons, the name Gabriel belonging, I believe, exclusively to that
branch of the Scottish Hamiltons."

One might dismiss this, but in 1912, Samuel K. Hamilton published _The
Hamiltons of Waterborough (York County, Maine)_, which reproduces (p.
65) the verso of the title page of a copy of _Reliquiae Sacrae
Carolinae_ apparently owned by the immigrant David Hamilton. It reads
"David Hamilton, His Book" and "Et arma et virtus," which is the motto
of the Hamiltons of Westburn.

Is Samuel Hamilton correct in his claim that this book is derisively
known as "King Charles's Bible"? (I thought that was the Bible that
had the misprint "Thou shalt commit adultery," etc.) For _Reliquiae
Sacrae Carolinae_, see ...
