Bari or Bar?

Legg inn av Leo van de Pas » 15 des 2006 05:44:41

ES Loring edition, volume II tafel 129

Guido Gonzaga, Lord of Mantua 1291-1369 married as his third wife Beatrice Countess of Bari, daughter of Duarte Count of Bari.

Someone suggested to me that Duarte Count of Bari is the same as Edouard, Comte de Bar, who about 1310 married Marie de Bourgogne.

ES Schwennicke VI 147 gives this Edouard and Marie only two children Henri IV and Eleonore (married to Rudolf of Lorraine).
BUT Cahiers de Saint Louis page 33 gives a third child, a son who died young.

Guido Gonzaga and Beatrice Countess of Bari had several children, one born in 1334, and so the chronology seems to make it possible.

Does anyone have additional information, either to confirm or refute these details?

With many thanks

Guido Gonzaga was only Army Captain of Mantua, I do not thing he was a
"Lord".

Anyway, his wife was Beatrice Bar-Le-Duc (whatever that means), daughter of
Eduardo I, Count of Bar-Le-Duc and Maria of Burgundy.

Edouard is de Bar-------------------is Duarte of Bari? Or is it one person?

This is quite wrong - Beatrice was countess of Bari, not of Bar that was
inherited by Edouard's son Henri and the latter's descendants.
