There is a listing on A2A, Catalogue Ref. 44M69 under "Jervoise family of Heriard" dated 1587. A grant was made to "Rt. Hon. John Lord St. John of Blettso and Dame Katherine his wife". Does anyone know of this John Lord St. John of Blettso? Anyone know of the location of "Blettso"? The Jervise family is shown to be from Hampsire. Much Thanks.

The Bletsoe St.Johns began with John St.John in the 15th century.
Bletsoe was inherited by Margaret Beauchamp who married Oliver St.John.
Margaret was widowed with two sons and five daughters within 12 years
of this marriage. She then married John Beaufort and hence became
grandmother to Henry VII.

The grant, you ask about, was mostly to John 2nd Lord St.John of
Bletsoe (d. Oct 1596) and his wife Katherine Dormer.

Bletsoe Church has many generations of St.Johns buried in its vaults
and in the church yard. Bletsoe Castle is now a ruin. When the fourth
Lord St.John of Bletsoe became Earl Bolingbroke he moved his family to
a grand house in Melchbourne which is to the north of Bletsoe.

If you would like more information please get in touch.

PS The present Lord St.John of Bletsoe is the 21st Lord and he still
has his seat in the House of Lords
