A Question of maternity: Was Alan Durward`s mother a daughte

Dear John R, Michael Anne and others,
I know that Thomas
de Lundin (Durward) was apparently married to a daughter of Earl Malcolm of
Athol, said to be by his 2nd wife, Hextilda of Tynedale, widow of Richard Comyn
, jure uxoris Lord of Tynedale and Bedrule, yet while Alan Young`s book on
The Comyns 1212-1314 mentions Alan Durward several times, it doesn`t indicate
that Alan was her grandson, but mentions that Patrick of Galloway, Earl of Athol
1237-1242 was her great grandson. Admittedly the fierce bickering and bitter
feelings between Alan Durward and especially Walter Comyn look very much like
a disagreement between close kin, yet were They ever mentioned as such ? There
is method to this madness... if no kinship existed between Alan and the
Comyns, it opens up the possibility that John the Red Comyn # 1`s 1st wife Eva was
a Durward, which would explain the Athol property given to Coupae Angus abbey
and John`s reasoning behind the attempted seizure of the site of Blair Castle,
which He started building, and also, I think I read somewhere that He
recieved Urquhart Castle from King Alexander III of the Scots on Alan Durward`s
death in 1275.
Sincerely,
James W Cummings
