Hunlocks of New England and New Jersey

Savage's _Dictionary_ gives the following on two Hunlocks or Hunlokes
who spent time in New England:

HUNLOCK or HUNLOKE, EDWARD, Boston, from Derbysh. by w. Margaret had
Margaret, b. 7 May 1682; Martha, 7 Feb. 1684; and Mary, 15 Feb. 1686;
rem. to Burlington in the Prov. of W. Jersey, whence he wrote 12 July
1695 to his kinsman John at Boston. He was in Dec. 1699, appoint. by
Gov. Hamilton one of the three Prov. Judges; and in the first yr. of
her reign, Queen Anne, by commiss. 16 Nov. 1702, to her cous. Lord
Cornbury, Gov. of New Jersey, among his thirteen counsel. nam. him the
first. JOHN, Boston, s. of Christopher, of Wingerworth, near
Chesterfield, Co. Derby (of wh. we find no trace on our side of the
ocean, and therefore presume he never came, espec. as he was creat. a
baronet in 1642), m. Joanna, only ch. of Samuel Sendall, had John, b. 7
Oct. 1667, d. young; Joanna, 27 Feb. 1670; John, again, 19 Mar. 1672;
Sarah, 10 Sept. 1673; Samuel, 26 July 1678; Jonathan, 12 Dec. 1682;
Elizabeth 12 Mar. 1685; and Joseph, 18 Oct. 1689. His w. d. 21 Oct.
1706; and he prob. rem. to N. J. as no further notice of him is found.
He had br. Christopher, wh. came over [[vol. 2, p. 499]] to some part
of our country, nam. his planta. Wingerworth, as may be learn. from a
most curious vol. in MS. of Collections of the Gentry of Derbysh. by
Bassano, in the Brit. Museum. Their gr.f. was Nicholas of Wingerworth,
where the fam. an old Catholic stock (of wh. however, the latest
possessor conform. to the ch. of Eng.), resided until our day, in the
rank of baronets, now extinct. He was b. 1547, d. 1605.

Apparently it was Edward of New Jersey who named his plantation
"Wingerworth"; see _Calendar of Records in the Office of the Secretary
of State [of New Jersey]_:

But he was definitely a kinsman of John Hunlock of Boston. Suffolk
[Mass.] Deeds contains a document in which Edward Hunlock of New Jersey
mentions "my trusty friend and Kinsman, mr. John Hunloke of Boston":

It seems doubtful that John of Boston ever went to New Jersey; in the
1875 NEHGR, p. 109, is mentioned another Suffolk deed giving the names
of his daughters (Joanna Stone, Hannah Batter, and Elizabeth Palfrey)
who seem to have been still in the vicinity (Batter and Palfrey,
especially, are New England names).

It seems quite possible there are living descendants still in New
England. Sendall Williams, a member of the Military Company of the
Massachusetts in the mid-1700s, was certainly one:

And Hunlock Palfrey had "four children left" in 1786, according to
records of Rev. William Bentley of Salem:

Some descendants of Edward of N.J. are found on Rootsweb:

The 1895 NEHGR (p. 389-90) has an abstract of the will of Martha
Hunlock of Clapham, Surrey, widow of Francis, which names her "son
Edward Hunlocke in New England."

(p. 389)

Her will mentions her children's uncle, Edward Osbaldeston; the will of
her husband, Francis Hunlock, mentions his brother "Edward Osboldston."
Hence the extracted IGI records below seem to apply:

Saint Mildred Poultry With Saint Mary Colechurch, London

--Edward Osbolstone to Martha Collins, 10 April 1626
--Martha Osboldstone, dau. of Edward, bapt. 3 March 1630
--Martha Osboldston to Francis Vulooke [Unlocke], 8 Jan. 1648
