OT: 17th century kinship question

Early pedigrees of the Trench family list my ancestor Margaret
Montgomery, wife of Rev. James Trench, of Clongill, Co. Meath,
(c1578-1631), as a daughter of Hugh Montgomery, 1st Viscount of Ardes
(1560-1636). That filiation has been dropped in recent editions of
Burke's Peerage, where she is listed simply as Margaret Montgomery.

James Trench's will, dated 27 January 1630, seems to suggest that there
was SOME connection with the Ardes family. Here's an extract:

"And I doe likewayse appointe and ordeyne that yf it shall please God
to call the said Margratt my wyffe out of the mortall lyffe before that
the said Anna Trensh [James and Margaret's heir] be maryed or become to
the years of perfectione. That then the right honorable Nicholas Lord
Barron of Houth and the right honorable Mr. Hugh Montgomerie, eldest
sone to the right honorable the Lord Viscount of Ardes. and such
otheres as my saide wyffe, shall appointe by hir last will and
Testament to be guardianes and tooteres to the said Anna Trenshe."

The "Lord Barron of Houth" is Nicholas St Lawrence, 10th Lord Howth,
husband of Jane Montgomery, the 1st Viscount Montgomery's niece and
daughter of George Montgomery, Bishop of Meath. George Montgomery was
James Trench's patron.

Questions:

Does this extract suggest that Margaret (Montgomery) Trench was close
kin to the Ardes family? OR is it more likely she was a distant cousin,
offered in marriage to a family retainer?

Might Margaret be an illegitimate daughter of the 1st Viscount --
perhaps born before his first marriage in 1587? OR would Trench then
call Hugh Montgomery Jr. his "brother"?

I'm sure there are no easy answers, but would appreciate any thoughts.

Many thanks,

Mark Bridge, London, UK
