Need help understanding "ob inf adm"

This is a little beyond the Middle Ages, but I hope I can rely on the
expertise of someone in the group to decipher a record I am working with.

William Kennedy was the eldest son of John Kennedy of Mullagh, Co.
Longford. His father died on 14 July 1661 and the will was proved on 2
February 1661. I see the following recorded in Betham's Pedigree Sketch
for the Kennedy family:

"William Kennedy
eldest son
ob inf adm to him
sine 5 apr 1698"

William lived to adulthood and had a son. He also had eight siblings.

After consulting several reference works, I still can not figure out
what "ob inf adm to him sine" would mean. My guess would be that he was
made the administrator of his father's estate and took care of his
younger siblings until 1698, but this is just a guess. Clearly, the "ob
inf" can not indicate that he died in infancy since he grew to adulthood
and produced a son.

Any assistance in untangling this cryptic record would be greatly
appreciated.

It is hard to see how "ob inf" could mean other than died in childhood.
Could it be saying that William's own eldest son died in childhood and
William was awarded the administration?
