Probably this is nothing new, as the NEHGR has suggested that "Peter
Sergeant, Esq., may have been a son of Peter Sergeant of Newton, co.
Lancaster, and Margaret his wife, daughter of Henry Ashurst"; the basis
for this claim was an indenture of 1716 mentioning three sisters of
Peter Sergeant, deceased, late of New England (Clemence Bucknell,
widow; Dorothy Hook, widow; and Cassandra Higginbotham, wife of Henry
Higginbotham) ...

This suggestion is probably correct, since we find Peter Sargeant
described as "cousin" of Sir Henry Ashurst:

Another source shows that Mrs. Cassandra Higginbotham was daughter of
Peter Sargent:

http://books.google.com/books?vid=LCCN1 ... %22+cousin

And the extracted IGI also shows:

Prestwich, Lancashire

--Clemens Sargeant, dau. Peter, 20 May 1638
--Petrus Sargeant, son Peter, 21 Jan. 1642 (died 24 March 1642)
--Petrus Sargent, son Peter, 18 Jan. 1646
--Dorothea Sergiant, dau. Peter, 12 August 1649
--Casandra Sargeant, dau. Peter, 9 May 1652
--Henricus Hickinbothom to Casandra Sarjant, 5 Jan. 1674

I believe Peter Sargeant of Massachusetts had no descendants, but he
was what would have been called "an opulent merchant," and builder of
the famous Province House in Boston:
