Sir John Bourchier (d 1329/30), Judge of the Common Pleas and founder
of the fortunes of the Bourchier family, afterwards Earls of Essex &c,
is said to have married Helen, the daughter and heir of Walter de
Colchester, alias de Lyston, of Stansted (eg CP, sub Bourchier).

From the following entry in the Suffolk Fines, dated 55 Henry III, we
find the father of Walter de Colchester named, thus enabling us to go

back one further generation in the Bourchier ancestry:

"William de Cheverevill & Alice his wife v. Walter de Colchester, son
of Robert de la More, and Joan his wife re land and advowson, Reydon"

Additionally, in the same year we find this entry:

"Roger de Holbrook v. Walter de Colchester and Joan his wife, Robert le
Burser and Emma his wife, and Euphemia daughter of Roger de Munchensi
of Little Wenham".

Thus, Walter de Colchester was son of one Robert de la More.

["Robert le Burser and Emma his wife" were, according to Morant, the
parents of Sir John Bourchier; Joan de Colchester was, according to
Keats-Rohan, the daughter of Roger de Munchensi.]
