According to the times displayed on e-mails, about seven hours before
Richardson's message, Peter Stewart acknowledged his mistake. Peter, unlike
some, always acknowledges mistakes as soon as he is aware, most of the time
before others have spotted them.

Otto------Count of Poitou?

He was count of Ponthieu, not Poitou.

Peter Stewart

In your eagerness to find fault with others, you've made an error of
your own. Otto was, of course, Count of Poitou, not Count of Ponthieu.
He was the nephew of King Richard and King John of England.

As you have told us repeatedly, a careful scholar would not make such
mistakes. Perhaps you have judged yourself too harshly, Peter.

Thankyou, Leo - this, like so much else, has apparently escaped the notice
of Douglas Richardson.

I don't get wrapped up in being correct because the search for facts is what
motivates me in this field of study, not a search for admiration.

For some reason I am usually more observant when I read back my own messages
after they have been posted than in trying to revise them beforehand.
Consequently there is no choice but to draw attention to my errors as soon
as I notice them, although it doesn't bother me anyway - not to do this
would be deceitful.

Peter Stewart
