Death date for Elizabeth

Legg inn av Merilyn Pedrick » 04 nov 2006 07:05:02

According to my database Thomas Lewknor and his wife Elizabeth de Etchingham
had two children: Joan, who was born after 1421 and Nicholas who was born
about 1430.

However I have their mother Elizabeth's death date as 12 March 1412.

Genealogics has Nicholas as the son of Thomas Lewknor and another wife,
Elizabeth Carew.

Could someone please tell me where I've blundered?

For whatever it is worth (and the clutch of Harleian folios used for the
pedigree is not a good omen), the 1530 Visitation of Sussex, published
by Harleian Soc in 1905, and between pp. 26 and 28, gives Nicholas'
parents as "Sr Thomas Lewknor knight 31 H 6" and "Phillip d. & heire of
Sir Richard Dalingrig renup. Ric. Barnes". Nicholas gets "Nicholas
Lewknor, 6 sonn of Thomas 14 E 4, 1473". Elizabeth Carew is given as
the mother of Thomas.

The Worcs 1569 visitation, pub 1888, p. 86, gives the same parents to
Nicholas but the text is: "Sr Thomas Lewknor Kt Ano 31 H 6" and "Phillip
(Phillippa) da. & heire of (Sir Walter or) Richard Dalinridge
(Dalengrigge Kt who died 16 Ed 4 or as others say 14 Ed 4 and 1478)".

The daughter Joan of Thomas and Phillip is not in either visitation.

The line is set out well in Magna Carta Ancestries by Doug Richardson,
p. 508.

Roger Lewkenor, Esquire b. bef. 1374, d. bef. 15 Nov. 1400 m. Elizabeth
Carew who died 25 Sept. 1410 (and certainly bef. 1419), parents of

Sir Thomas Lewkenor, b.c. 1392, d. 1452, m. 1st Philippe Dallingridge
(by whom he had Sir Roger Lewkenor)--she d. 2 October 1421, m. 2nd
Elizabeth Echingham, who died bef. 23 Feb 1464, by whom he had John,
Thomas, Richard, Walter, Nicholas, Alice, Jane and Joan. Joan is given
as the wife of Henry or Thomas Frowick.
