Is anyone familiar with the origin of the Mompesson name or its history
before the 1400s?

1. Thomas Bonham (d. 1420), Esq., of Bathampton, Wiltshire.
Married Catherine Knottingley (d. by 1405), daughter and heiress of John
Knottingley of Bathampton.

2. Elizabeth Bonham (d. v.p.).
Married William Goodwyn of Gillingham, Dorset.

3. Alice Goodwyn, heiress of Bathampton 1420.
Married Robert Mompesson, Esq., of Bathampton, Wiltshire.

4. John Mompesson (d. testate 30 Nov. 1500 requesting burial in his "newe
chapell" in Bathampton), Esq., of Bathampton, Wiltshire.
Married [as his first wife] Isabell Drewe, daughter and heiress of Thomas
Drewe (fl. 1428-1451), Esq., of Seagry, Wiltshire.

5. Drewe Mompesson (d. v.p. testate 1488 requesting burial in the Chapel of
St. Nicholas at Bathampton), Esq., of Bathampton, Wiltshire.
Married Agnes Watkins (d. 3 Oct. 1499), daughter and heiress of William
Watkins of Heddington Cauntelo manor, Witchampton (in Calne), Tinhead manor, and
Edington (in Tinhead), by his wife Agnes [great-great-granddaughter of Maud de
Cauntelo (fl. 1329)].

6. John Mompesson (d. testate 3 May 1511), Esq., of Bathampton, Wiltshire.
Married Alice Leigh (d. testate 1516 ~ M.I. at Church of St. John, West
Grimstead, Wiltshire), daughter of John Leigh, Knt., of Flamstone, Wiltshire, and
Appuldurcombe manor, Isle of Wight.

7. Mary Mompesson, co-heiress of her brother Edmund Mompesson 1556.
Married Thomas Welles of Bambridge, Hampshire.

8. Anne Welles (recusant; living as late as 1586)
Married [as her first husband] William Perkyns (1502-1558), Gent., of
Brimpton, Berkshire.
Married [as her second husband] by 1562 George Tattershall (d. by 1586).

9. Edmund Tattershall (d. 1631-36), Gent., of Brook (in Bramshaw),
Hampshire, and de jure uxoris Blakes (in Wargrave), Berkshire.
Married [as his first wife] Katherine Buryton (alias Berington), daughter of
Thomas Buryton (d. testate 1603 ~ M.I. at Church of St. Mary, Streatley),
Gent., of Streatley, Berkshire, by his wife Joan Wyer.

10. Lawrence Tattershall, Gent., of Odstock, Wiltshire.
In 1636 he and his brother Peter Tattershall, Gent., of Chideock, Dorset,
sold property jointly to George Chappell, yeoman, of Norrington, Wiltshire. In
1646 he appeared on a recusant roll alongside his uncle George Tattershall,
Gent., of Stapleford, Wiltshire. He was apparently alive as late as 1658
when his nephew Edmund Smith, planter, of Newtown Hundred, St. Mary's County,
Maryland quitclaimed to his uncle Lawrence of Odstock his rights to property in
England.

He was the father of at least four children:

a. John Tattershall, Gent., of Odstock, Wiltshire.
Died tesate and buried at Odstock Church 2 May 1696.
Married Anne -------- (bur. 16 Jul. 1698).

b. Sarah Tattershall, Lady of Sarum Manor (in Newport Hundred), Charles
County, Maryland.
Immigrated 1648 with her husband John Pile, Gent., of Sarum.

c. Mary Tattershall [Transported by John and Sarah Pile 1648.]
Married [as her first husband] by 1651 John Jarboe (d. testate 1674) of
Newtown Hundred, St. Mary's County, Maryland.
Married [as her second husband] between 24 May 1675 and 4 Mar. 1675/6
Stephen Gough (d. testate 1700) of Newtown Hundred, St. Mary's County, Maryland.

d. William Tattershall, Gent., of Bretton's Bay (in Newtown Hundred), St.
Mary's County, Maryland. [Transported by John and Srah Pile 1648.]
Born ca. 1637.
Died testate between 3 May and 12 Jun. 1674.
Married Anne Lewger, daughter of John Lewger, chaplain of Lord Baltimore, by
his wife Anne.
