Query: That Avelina, wife Duncan Earl of Carrick was daughte

A while ago, John Ravilous said that Avelina, who married Duncan, Earl of
Carrick on or about Nov 1200, was a daughter of Walter the Steward citing Andrew
MacEwen who cites Hoveden, but also said, in the same email, that she was a
daughter of Alan citing Oram who *also* cites Hoveden.

I wonder if these two are citing the same reference ? Maybe the reference
actually says something simple like "daughter of the Steward" without specifying
her father's name at all.

Walter married a woman named Bethoc, SP saying "probably Beatrix of Angus".

If Avelina were a daughter of Walter's is she necessarily a daughter of
Bethoc as well? Or did this Walter have another wife or mistress?

Thanks
Will Johnson
