King's Kinsfolk: King Alfonso VI of Castile & Leon and his k

Dear Newsgroup ~

Following up on further references of kinship between Blanche of
Navarre and the family of her husband to other parties, I find there is
a transcript online of the Latin document concerning a pact dated 1176
between King Alfonso VIII of Castille and King Sancho VI of Navarre
(father of Blanche of Navarre). The pact refers to kinship between two
former kings, namely Alfonso VI, King of Castile and Leon (died 1109)
and Sancho I, King of Aragon and Navarre (died 1094).

"Praeterea petit Pontem Reginae, et Sangossa, et totam terram quae est
ab iis duabus villis usque ad flumen Yberi, quam terram bonae memoriae
rex Aldefonsus avus imperatoris habuit et in pace possedit, et post
eum, secundum consuetudinem Hispaniae, consanguineus ejus rex Sanctius
Arragonensis, et eo mortuo filius ejus rex Petrus, et post morten regis
Petri frater ejus rex Aldefonsus Arragonensis similiter, sicut
consanguinei et amici tenuerunt." END OF QUOTE.

The two kings were related in the 2nd and 2nd degrees of kindred (or if
you prefer 1st cousins) by virtue of common descent from King Sancho
III of Navarre (died 1035), as set forth below.

1. King Sancho III of Navarre (died 1035).
2. King Fernando I of Castile (died 1065).
3. King Alfonso VI of Castile and Leon (died 1109).

1. King Sancho III of Navarre (died 1035).
2. King Ramiro I of Aragon (died 1063).
3. King Sancho I of Aragon & Navarre (died 1094).

Interestingly, the pact likewise refers in passing to [Rotrou], Count
of Perche, whose sister, Marguerite, was the wife of King Garcia VI of
Navarre. King Garcia VI and Marguerite of Perche were the paternal
grandparents of Blanche of Navarre.

"Petit etiam mediatatem Tutelae ex causa maternae successionis quam
comes Dalperg donavit reginae reginae Margaritae sobrinae suae, quae
uxor fuit regis Garsiae et avi ejusdem regis Aldefonsi, cum jam
dictaTudela nullo modo pertinet ad Navarram." END OF QUOTE.

Dear Newsgroup ~

In my post earlier today, I stated that Marguerite. wife of King Garcia
VI of Navarre, was the sister of Rotrou, Count of Perche. I erred in
that statement. Marguerite was actually the niece ["sobrinae suae"] of
Count Rotrou, she being the daughter of his sister, Julienne, wife of
Gilbert de l'Aigle.
