Possible additional Newdigate-Lewis descendants in New Engla
Back in 2004, I posted on the identity of Isabella (Lewis) Newdigate,
wife of Nathaniel Newdigate, whose son Nathaniel Newdigate died in
Newport, Rhode Island, in 1746. I could not find much at all on the
children and descendants of Nathaniel (d. 1746), but noted a possible
group of descendants through a certain Elizabeth, wife of Capt. John
Adams, who had a son "Nudigate" Adams. Copied immediately below are
the two original posts I made on the topic:

Various places in the _NEHGR_ discuss an American immigrant named
Nathaniel Newdigate, nephew of the wife of Simon1 Lynde of Boston, who
was born in London and died in Rhode Island in 1746. His parents were
Nathaniel and Isabel (Lewis) Newdigate. (Search both "Newdigate" and
"Newgate" in the online version of NEHGR to locate all refs.)
The RI Nathaniel Newdigate married his cousin Sarah Lynde, and may have
living descendants. See http://tinyurl.com/6mmc3 .
The 1665 Yorkshire Visitation (p. 291) shows that Isabel Lewis' parents
were Richard and Jane (Brinsley) Lewis [see http://tinyurl.com/49af8 ].
A royal line might be available through her Reresby ancestry, for
starters.

I think there is a line from Edward I, as follows:
1. Edward I, King of England
2. Joan Plantagenet = Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester
3. Elizabeth de Clare = Sir Theobald de Verdun
4. Isabel de Verdun = Henry Ferrers, Baron Ferrers
5. Elizabeth Ferrers = David Strathbogie, Earl of Atholl
6. Elizabeth Strathbogie = Sir John Scrope
7. Elizabeth Scrope = Thomas Clarell
8. Elizabeth Clarell = Sir Richard Fitzwilliam
9. Margaret Fitzwilliam = Ralph Reresby
10. Thomas Reresby = Margaret Fulnetby
11. Lionel Reresby = Anne Swyft
12. Mary Reresby = John Lewis
13. Richard Lewis = Jane Brinsley
14. Isabel Lewis = Nathaniel Newdigate
Gens. 1-9 from _Royal Descents of 600 Immigrants_, p. 346; Gens. 10-12
from Rev. Joseph Hunter, _South Yorkshire_, 2:39 (pedigree chart of
Reresby of Thribergh); Gens. 13-14 from 1665 Yorkshire Visitation.
The Brinsleys are a family of ancient gentry treated in Thoroton's
_Nottinghamshire_.

Page 110 of _Suffolk [Massachusetts] Deeds_ seems to indicate that
Isabella (Lewis) Newdigate had remarried to a John Johnson, mercer of
London, as John Johnson and his wife Isabella were executors of
Nathaniel Newdigate, Sr., in 1674. See:

I also find the following very interesting records in the extracted
IGI:
Trinity Church, Newport, Rhode Island
Marriages
--William Risby to Isabell Newdigate, 19 Dec. 1723
--Richard Mumford to Sarah Newdigate, 3 Aug. 1727
Baptisms
--Elizabeth Newdigate, bapt. 5 Aug. 1716
--William Risby, 17 Nov. 1724
--Elizabeth Risby, 10 April 1726
--Isabell Risby, 17 Aug. 1729
--Newdigate Mumford, 9 July 1732
--Lewis Mumford, 12 March 1734
--Lewis Mumford, 28 Oct. 1756
--Nathenael Mumford, 7 Aug. 1763
[many other Mumford baptisms, all completely lacking the names of the
parents ...]
Also the following marriage at Warwick, Rhode Island, per extracted
IGI:
John Warner to Isabella Risby, 16 April 1747
The following page on WorldConnect indicates John Warner's wife
Isabella was indeed the daughter of William Risby of Newport, by his
unknown wife:

James Gregory Mumford, in his _Mumford Memoirs_ says this about Richard
Mumford who married Sarah Newdigate:
304 Richard (2, 1). Of the sixth of Thomas the second's tall sons, I
know very little. I judge that he was a merchant or sailor from his
moving to Newport, where his children grew up. In 1727, at the age of
twenty-nine, he married Sarah--her father's name is unknown--and had by
her at least two sons, for we know two names. In 1728 was born the
eldest son, (410) Richard, in 1730 the second son, (411) Nathaniel
(20th June).
Various Richards are mentioned in the old records, but it is difficult
to distinguish one from the other. (411 [sic]) Richard Mumford,
presumably the son, was elected a member of the Fellowship Club or
Marine Society of Newport, on the 4th of September, 1753. He married
Mary Nichols, born 17th February, 1732, the daughter of John and Hannah
Forman Nichols. Our (304) Richard Mumford, the elder, was captain of a
company in the Louisburg Expedition of 1745, and there he died.

There seems to have been much confusion about the Mumford-Newdigate

_Diaries of Benjamin Lynde and of Benjamin Lynde, Jr._, p. 128:
Benjamin Lynde: 1742. _Memo._ My grandmother's maiden name I know
not. She had two husbands before my grandfather, Mr. John Newdigate.
The names of her former two husbands were, as my sister Pordage informs
me this 31st of January 1742-3, 1st. Hunt. 2d. Draper.
