Dear Denis,

I have tried the two websites in your signature and I cannot get access. Can
you send me an e-mail with an e-mail for you I can reply to?
Leo

According to an article in the Globe and Mail, he is the grand-son
of a Russian count. Is there any Internet ressource that would link
that count to medieval ancestry ?

Here is one descent from mediaeval ancestors:

1. Gediminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania d 1341
2. Gleb, Prince of Pinsk etc
3. Alexander, Prince of Podolia
4. Patrikey, Prince of Zwenihorod
[...]

20. Princess Catherine Galitsina, married Count Nicholas Ignatieff
21. Count Paul Ignatieff, d 1945
22. Count George Ignatieff
23. Michael Ignatieff - propositus

Further online details (usual caveats etc) may be found here:

Thanks.

BTW, the only book about Russian ancestry I found at the SGCF library
in Montréal is a summary of the Romanov family but I know there is
one book about the Troubianev (sp?) and another about the kings of
Albania etc. both in another library. But it seems that I would
have quite limited data here about this family.

Dear Denis,

Dito Leo's message. I have access to NR and other Russian sources and can
fill out the information considerably. I've generated an Ahnentafel table
on Michael Ignatieff that goes out 31 generations - about 50 pages long.
I'd be happy to send you a copy.

Leo sent me a ancestry up to about year 1000. I presume he will put
it in genealogics so if Ignatieff is chosen as the next leader of
PLC in December, I will update my series of short trees for
politicians with some roots in Quebec (where his parents and
grand-parents are buried). For this, I need only the 4 first
generations. And if he is chosen, odds are good that he will be
the next PM of Canada, so many persons will want to see the complete
tree.

I think you have a longer list than that of Leo. Perhaps, I could
put in some article in a local genealogical review that Ignatieff is
my cousin, using maybe Charlemagne as the common ancestor ;-)

You can send me the list in Ahnentafel format by email to
denis.b @ francogene.com

This is quite fascinating the many resources we can access by the net
thanks to other netters who have different sources or databases.
