I noticed the following in Lists and Indexes, vol. 29 ("Early Chancery
Proceedings," or something similar) ...
p. 223:
[ca. 1504-15.]
--Thomas Fenys, lord Dacre.
--George Chancy and Richard Porter.
--Detention of deeds relating to lands in Pevensey [Sussex], called
'[T]wyford,' late of Stephen Porter. _Mutilated._
The Porters of Lamberhurst/ Frant/ Bayham were ancestors of Jane Porter
Hawes, mother of the American immigrant Edmond Hawes. While Pevensey
is at a little remove from their home grounds of Lamberhurst-Frant, the
names Stephen and Richard were heavily used in this family, with an
early Stephen actually having a son called Richard. See p. 155 of the
1619 Kent Visitation:

Thoughts welcomed.
