Chimneys in medieval castles?

Legg inn av Rocky3 » 06 okt 2006 15:37:44

Hello!
I visited this page:
http://www.britainexpress.com/History/F ... l_life.htm (is
it a good site? Can I find better sites?)
and there I read that medieval Norman castles didn't have chimneys. I was
very surprised of it.
My period of interest is the end of the XII Century and the first years of
the XIII Century. Is this information reliable or is it suspicious? And, if
they truly had no chimneys, how they made the louvres in the roof? Were the
louvres thin and small? How many they where?
And, above all, how the Normans did heat their bedrooms during the Winter
nights?
Thank you in advance if you can help me.
Bye,

Rocky3
