Fw: Daughters of Sir Robert MARKHAM

When I posted the note below a few weeks ago, I noted that sources were in conflict as to which Sir Robert Markham was the father of the three daughters listed below. I've since located another source (unfortunately not a primary source) which says that the three ladies were daughters of the elder Sir Robert Markham and his wife Elizabeth Burdon, and thus sisters of the younger Sir Robert and his wife Joan Daubeney. This latest source is "A History of the Markham Family", by Rev. David Frederick Markham, published 1854. It seems to have been the basis for the 1913 work of Sir Clements Markham cited below, which made "many additions and corrections" to the 1854 work, but left this particular parentage unchanged.

Despite the fact that both of these works indicate that all the daughters were by the elder Sir Robert and Elizabeth Burdon, I'm inclined, for chronological reasons, to believe that the visitation pedigrees are right in this case in assigning the daughters to the younger Sir Robert and Joan Daubeney. This is because the elder Sir Robert probably died in the 1430s (or possibly even earlier), while the spouses of the three daughters died 60 to 95 years later. This spread of dates suggests that, if all the daughters were by a single Sir Robert, the younger Sir Robert (who died in 1476) is a more likely candidate, and the Markham family histories were likely confused by the two Roberts. I.e., a different conjecture than I had originally suggested....

If anyone has any better evidence or sources on this matter, it would be welcomed....

In the 15th and early 16th century, 3 daughters are attributed in various pedigrees to a Sir Robert Markham. The daughters are:
1) Elizabeth, wife of Sir Thomas Molyneux of Haughton (d. 1492)
2) Margaret, wife of Sir Henry Willoughby of Wollaton (d. 1528)
3) Katharine, wife of Sir Henry Bozome of Screveton [their son Sir Richard d. 1525]

The question is: WHICH Sir Robert Markham was the father? A couple of visitation pedigrees (Notts and Lincolnshire) say they were daughters of the Sir Robert who d. 1496 and mar. Joan Daubeney, bringing Cotham to the Markham family. But Sir Clements Markham in his "Markham Memorials" [1913] says the ladies were sisters of this Sir Robert and daughters of his father Sir Robert by his wife Elizabeth Burdon. This parentage is also given in an extensive Markham pedigree in vol. 7 of "The Herald and Genealogist" (unfortunately without sources and with no author indicated).

[The elder Sir Robert was son of Sir John, Judge of Common Pleas, and half-brother of Sir Robert, Lord Chief Justice.]

The limited chronology above would suggest that the ladies (or at least Elizabeth and Katharine, not necessarily Margaret) were sisters rather than daughters of the younger Sir Robert (d. 1496), thus agreeing with the version of Sir Clements Markham. But this is just a conjecture, and I don't know that they were necessarily all daughters of the same Sir Robert.

Any thoughts on this situation??
