New book: New Englanders in the 1600s

Hello:

I haven't seen this book mentioned here. New Englanders in the 1600s:
A guide to ggenealogical research published between 1980 and 2005, by
Martin E. Hollick, published by NEHGS and sold by Picton Press,
$19.95.

It consists of 25 pages of front matter explaining the goal of the
book and listing the books and periodicals selectively indexed
followed by 246 pages of citations ordered by the last name of the
person the article or book is about. It lists numerous items
discussing the European origins of 17th century New Englanders. Using
it I ended up making 26 inter-library loans to get articles not
available here in Houston at the Clayton Library. It also led me to a
number of items buried in materials held by the Clayton which I would
not have found using the library catalog.

This is not a comprehensive index. Mr Hollick has selected only the
"best" articles as defined by him in the introduction. You still need
to look at PERSI and Genealogical Books in Print for items. He sees
this as along the line of Donald Lines Jacobus's My Own Index which
goes to 1956. There is still a gap for indexing materials from 1956
to 1980 for an ambitious compiler to publish.

I am a NEHGS member but I have no financial interest in this publication.
..

Dear Steven ~

Thank you for sharing this information about Martin Hollick's new book.
It sounds like a winner to me! I definitely plan to buy it.
