Patricia:

Thank you for your information.

There is a need to establish correct dates for Thomas
(son) Gospatrick, and for Thomas (son) Thomas (son)
Gospatrick.

Currently 1119 Thomas (son) Gospatrick is recorded
giving portion of Preston in Kendal to church for a
mansion for the canons. At that date his father was
about 9 years old.

Thomas (son) Gospatrick's death 1152, and his son's
confirmation of his father's gifts appears possible.
However you have brought to my attention British
History On Line information which advises that Thomas
(son) Gospatrick 1191 appears to be undertaking
precisely the same as accomplished in 1119.

I wonder if Gospatrick (son) Orm had a son named
Gospatrick, and that this Thomas is a grandson of
Grospatrick (son) of Orm.

Gospatrick apparantly was married twice - the second
wife Ada daughter of King William of Scotland. What is
of some interest is some information pertinent to
Appleby Castle. Someone wrote a poem about King
William's take over of the castle 1174 - describes
Gospatrick as an old Englishman with grey hair (he was
about 64 years of age)

Regarding the Galloway family, my understanding was
incorrect. Details should be as follows:

Juliana Dunbar (daughter) Gospatrick II married Ralph.
Gunilda Dunbar (daughter) Waltheof married Uctred
Galloway.

Galloway pedigree - Alan Galloway (s) Roland (s)
Uctred (s) Fergus.

The Gospatrick families appear to have practised inter
family marriage which possibly explains its apparent
failure to survive.

Interesting to note that the Kendal line (Gospatrick
(son) Orm) seemed to have been the most stable.
Perhaps the reason is suggested in the study of the
Kendal line which provides evidence that the family
held a remarkable amount of property throughout the
north of England enjoyed also by the Lancasters ( a
Kendal branch)for many generations.

Regarding the descendants of Gospatrick II and
Gospatrick (son) of Orm, it is clear that only a few
individuals have been recorded by me.

If you should come across other names please advise.

Sincerely Yours,

Paul Bulkley
