Indexes to quartered coats in Harleian Society Visitation Se

I found the above in my local library and photocopied 2 pages from the
volume. The "Indexes to quartered coats"etc showed this was compiled
by Professor R.C.Gale, F.R.I.C., F.S.G, Eltham 1961.
Part one- Reference to volume & page numbers, e.g. ABBOTT 43/90 = Vol.
43 [Surrey], page 90. This I understood.

Part II Cross reference to Part I
This sectioned was alphabetized and all it had were names.
Under the letter D I found DIXWELL, MYCHELL and no volume or page
number given for any of the names in this section of the book. The
local librarian was unable to help me. She did not know what that
section of the book was about.

Can anyone tell me where I might inquire further as to the names
DIXWELL, MYCHELL & a possible coat of arms? [ I plead total ignorance
in this matter.]

Thank you

Marge

I haven't seen this book, but presumably the second section is
referencing quarterings within arms indexed only by paternal coat in the
first section. I would guess that your "Dixwell, Mychell" reference
means that the coat of arms for Mychell indexed in the first section
(presumably there is an entry for one there) contains a quartering for
Dixwell. Flip back to the first index, look up the Mychell arms
referenced there, and you should find a Dixwell quartering.

That's exactly what it is. Slight word of warning: in a few cases the
reference do not seem to correlate.
