Query: That Lucy Hungerford brought Farley Castle as her inh

Le Neve here
http://books.google.com/books?vid=LCCN1 ... 33&dq=calt
horp

proposes that Anthony Hungerford of Black Bourton (d 27 Jan 1627) married
firstly to Lucy Hungerford (d 4 Jun 1598)

I had already found that Anthony's son, also Anthony is called "of Farley
Castle" and d 17 Aug 1657

It's certainly possible that he is of Farley Castle, by virtue of Lucy being
one of the three female co-heirs of her father by his first marriage to Anne
Dormer but then why wouldn't Farley Castle pass down through one of his two
known sons by his second marriage to Alice Sandys ?

If someone has another source which can confirm what Le Neve is saying here,
that would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's pretty complicated....check out CP 6:626 for an explanation.

Basically the younger Anthony (d. 1657) was a son of the elder Anthony by
his 2nd wife, not by Lucy the first wife. The younger Anthony inherited
Farley from his elder half-brother Sir Edward (d. 1648 sp) who WAS a son of
Lucy. But Sir Edward got Farley because he was the adopted heir of his
great-uncle another Sir Edward (d. 1607 sp) who was the uncle [of the half
blood] of Lucy. The father of Lucy and the half-brother of the elder Sir
Edward, Sir Walter, d. 1596 without surviving sons by either of his wife Ann
Basset or Anne Dormer (not Anne Sandys, who was one of three wives of his
father Sir Walter the executed Lord Hungerford of Heytesbury).

Perfectly clear, right? :-) The Hungerford pedigrees at the Stirnet site
may help to clarify this.... [or at Tudor Place]
