Tony Hoskins was the first to realise that Marcus Schenkenberg should have links to medieval families, and he also found the missing link.

Being in Australia, I did not know who Marcus Schenkenberg was, but doing a Google on his name will find many entries. Per year he earns over a million dollar by being a male model. He also has appeared in several movies and has a hit record.

He is a good example to ask what is nationality? He has lived in the USA since 1987 but was born in Stockholm, his parents are still in Sweden. I understand that both parents are Dutch, even though at the moment I know hardly anything about his mother. Apparently his parents went to Sweden together before Marcus and his brother were born. However, the father of Marcus was born during WWII in Soerabaja, in the Dutch East Indies, and the paternal great-grandfather of Marcus, died in a Japanese concentration camp in Karang Panas, Semarang.

For many generations the paternal ancestors of Marcus Schenkenberg were of the upper classes in The Netherlands but apparently did nothing out of the ordinary. The first outstanding ancestor may be a bit of a fraud. A person that has entered the psyche of The Netherlands and even the Dutch language. Kenau Simonsdr. Hasselaer lived from 1526 to 1588. She was apparently involved in the defense of Haarlem against the Spanish forces, but so were many other women. A myth was created around her and soon she was regarded as a super woman, and a _Kenau_ is a woman to be reckoned with. Hundreds of years later an attempt was made to remove her from her historical pedestal but, I think, it was too late and she will remain a Dutch icon.

It takes then several generations and then we find as ancestors Willem I, Duke of Gelre and Julich, 1363-1402, Ludwig IV 'der Bayer' Holy Roman Emperor 1282-1347, Rudolf I von Habsburg Holy Roman Emperor 1218-1291, Philippe III King of France 1245-1285, Wladislaw II King of Bohemia 1110-1175, Henry II King of England 1133-1189, William the Conqueror, Charlemagne and many more.

Marcus Schenkenberg is an 11th cousin to Beatrix, Queen of The Netherlands.

With best wishes

Ah, now I know why so many people have commented to me on the close
resemblence... :)

Thanks for the very interesting post - good work Leo and Tony.
