Dear Michael Anne, John , Will and others,
Another Cummin
/ Comyn family is that of William Cummin, Lord of Snitterfield, Warwick
about whom very little is known other than He had a daughter Margaret , heiress to
Snitterfield who married John de Cantelou, uncle of that William who married
Eve de Braose. John had a son John who married Margaret Mohun and a daughter
Eleanor de Cantelou who married Sir Thomas West, ancestor by her of the Earls
of Delaware and Viscounts Cantilupe. See BXP p 101. I recall hearing that John
Comyn , Archbishop of Dublin d 1212 was a member of a Warwickshire family.
Sincerely,
James W
Cummings
Dixmont,

Curiously CP XII/2, 518 says that the mother of Eleanor was Maud, though
it does give Snitterwick as part of Sir John Cantilupe's fief. In the
notes to this CP adds:

For Eleanor's [Cantilupe] inheritance see Devon feet of Fines, Devon
and Cornwall Rec. Soc., vol ii, nos 1122, 1123; Warwicks Feet of
Fines, Dugdale Soc, vol ii, nos 1503, 1584, 1680; V.C.H. Warwicks vol
iii, p. 168.

I wonder if anyone has access to any of this to clarify who Eleanor's
mother actually was?
