Wasn't this Richard Budd some connection of the New England Brinleys?

Yes, Richard Budd esq left an extensive will, proved 1631 (PCC 16 St
John),
which mentions his niece Ann Wase Brinley.
There are many references to him in the National Archives catalog,
since he
was an auditor for the government.
However, he does not seem to have been of gentry ancestry.

There is also much relevant material in the Hampshire County Records
Office at Winchester, e.g.

FindingNo 34M91W/244
Title Budd's Charity: Bargain and sale of annual rent-charge of
£36-12-1d out of River Manor, Sussex, to hold under the trusts of
Richard Budd's will
Date 30 Jun 1631
Description (i) Thomas Brynley of St James, Clerkenwell, Middlesex, esq

(ii) Christopher Budd and William Wase of St James, Clerkenwell,
Middlesex, gents and the Mayor, Bailiffs and Commonalty of Winchester
Recites grant of the rent-charge by Lawrence Whittacre esq and Henry
Price, gent to Richard Budd of London, esq deceased and T. Brynley, 20
Sep 1620
Recites Richard Budd's will dated 20 Jul 1630 whereby he devised the
rent-charge to (ii)
Contained in wooden box labelled `Richard Budd's deeds' and (in red
ink) no. 5
A small note inside the box states that 8 documents relating to Budd's
Charity were in the box (but only this deed was found there in 1991)

Budd was an old and relatively common name in east Hampshire; I descend
from a family of that name who farmed at Medstead in the 16th century.

Ive tried to confirm those details,
but no luck so far.

The William Wase here (supposedly married to Elizabeth Bartelot)
left a will proved 1619 in the PCC.
But a search in that court & the courts in Sussex shows no earlier
Wase wills.
The apparent father of Richard & Christian Budd didnt leave a will
either.

Maybe something could be found in chancery records or manorial records.

I think those Budds may be somehow connected to mine. My 2x great
grandmother was Elizabeth Margaret Budd born Eling, Hampshire 1849.
So far I have her father Richard Budd (b. 1817 somewhere near
Southampton) and mother Elizabeth Margaret Henbest (b. 1819 Bramshaw).
Richard's parents were another Richard and Ann Budd.
The family farm was Budd Farm in Winsor near Eling, Hampshire and my 3x
great Richard Budd was a sub enumerator on the 1851 census.

I've seen Budds all around the New Forest area. I haven't spent a lot
of time doing earlier research on them yet. I know Medstead is the
other side of Southampton but confusingly there's a similarly named
Minstead near Eling.

Anyway thanks for all the links as that will give me several possible
new leads to explore.

Waters pointed out some reference in Dalloway.

And I think I saw that there was supposed to be a Wase pedigree in
either a 1619 or 1623 Visitation.

_NEHGR_ (volume for 1882 or '83), footnote on p. 382 (discussion of
will of Lawrence Brinley):

"This is undoubtedly a mistake for Wase; for a pedigree of which family
see Berry's Sussex Genealogies, p. 125, and Dallaway's History of the
Western Division of Sussex, Vol. 2, Part ii. p. 123. It will be
noticed that William Wase and Budd Wase were witnesses of Thomas
Brinley's will.---H. F. W."
