Dear John and others,
After the last post I made on "Odinel and
Simon, sons of Richard Comyn " you probably saw this coming . Hextilda was the
daughter of Uchtred Fitz Waldeve. If Uchtred, lord of Tynedale was in fact a
son of Waldeve /Waltheof, lord of Allerdale, the following are true.
1. Uchtred, lord of Tynedale was the brother of Gunnild of Dunbar (or
Allerdale), wife of Uchtred , Lord of Galloway murdered in 1174.
2. Hextilda filia Uchtred of Tynedale born abt 1140 ? d after 1182, wife
of 1st Richard Comyn and 2nd Malcolm mac Madadh, 2nd Earl of Athol; was a 1st
cousin to Lachlan (or Roland), Lord of Galloway d 1200
3 . William Comyn, Lord of Bedrule and Earl of Buchan abt 1157 -d 1233
was a 2nd cousin to Alan Fitz roland (or mac Lachlan), Lord of Galloway and
Constable of Scotland d 1234 and to his brother Thomas of Galloway, Earl of
Athol d 1233, consort of Isabel, Countess of Athol, the daughter of Henry,3rd Earl
of Athol d 1211 who may or may not have been a half brother to William Comyn.
4 Walter Comyn, Earl of Menteith d 1258, Richard Comyn, lord of Bedrule
and Tynedale d bet 1244-49, and Alexander Comyn, Earl of Buchan d 1289 were
3rd cousins to Patrick of Galloway, Earl of Athol murdered 1242.
Sincerely,
