Gunther IV (1484-1526), Count of Mansfeld-Vorderort, married Agnes von
Gleichen. Was she the daughter of Siegmund I Count of Gleichen-Tonna
and his wife, Agnes von Querfurt, or the daughter of Karl I Count of
Gleichen-Blankenheim and his wife, Felicitas von Beichlingen?

Re: Agnes von Gleichen +1536
Dear Henry,
I cannot find anyone fitting the details, could it be Gunther III born 24
March 1476, died 3 July 1526 Castle Mansfeld?
If this is the one, he married 14 June 1503 Agnes von Gleichen, their
marriage was childless. She is shown as daughter of Karl I, Count von
Gleichen-Blankenhain.
The above is in Europaische Stammtafeln (Schwennicke) Volume XIX Tafel 85
Same book Tafel 101
Karl I Count von Gleichen in Kranichfeld, Tannroade, Bl.ankenhein etc.
died 17 May 1495 buried St. Peter Church, Erfurt; married Felicitas von
Beichlingen they had six sons and two daughters, the younger daughter is
Agnes, she died 18 April 1536, and married Gnther III von Mansfeld.
I think your Gunther IV is this Gunther III.
Hope this helps?
Leo

Of course is the 2nd that died 1536 and as Leo said he should well be
Günther III.
Miroslav Marek 'jumps' from Günther II to Günther IV but he also
lists the first Mansfeld-Vorderort as follows:
D1. Gf Günther IV von Mansfeld zu Vorder-Ort, *1475, +5.9.1526; 1m:
Agnes von Gleichen-Tonna, dau.of Siegmund I von Gleichen-Tonna by Agnes
von Querfurt; 2m: Agnes Gfn von Gleichen-Blankenhain (+1536), dau.of
Karl I von Gleichen-Blankenhain by Felicitas von Beichlingen
D2. Gf Hoyer VI von Mansfeld zu Vorder-Ort, *1477, +9.1.1540
D3. Gf Ernst II von Mansfeld zu Vorder-Ort, *6.12.1479, +Heldrungen
9.5.1531; 1m: 1500 Barbara von Querfurt (*1480 +23.1.1510), dau.of
Bruno VI von Querfurt; 2m: 1512 Dorothea zu Solm-Lich (*25.1.1493
+Mansfeld 8.6.1578)
In a web page with the history of countdom of Mansfeld I found that
after the death of Volrad III in 1499 all the possible heirs were too
young and in 1501 they were pushed to an hereditary divison:
Counts Günther III, Ernst II and Hoyer VI formed the line Vorderort;
Count Gebhard VII, formed the line Mittelort;
Count Albrecht IV, formed the line Hinterort.
So, as seen above it is well Günther III and probably the IV was a
typo started or repeated in euweb.cz

Thank you Francisco,
However this 'typo' seems
to go back to around 1904. The Stoyan website gives S.Kekule
v.Stradonitz: Ahnentafelatlas. Berlin, 1904 as the source for Gunther
IV, and for his two wives who both seem to have died in 1536. There is
clearly a problem here, and I suspect Leo's source (ES) is the more
accurate one.

1904 makes the eventual 'typo' more probable. Handwritting is easy to
change III to IV.
When the same man is married to 2 Agnes von Gleichen all sorts of
confusions are possible. I find hard to believe that they both died in
1536 as in that case the 1st marriage would have finished with a
divorce and probably an annulment, and that was rare and *noisy* if I
may say so. Sort of thing that is normally well documented and referred
to.
