Go to:

http://www.genealogics.org

and put 'Blanche of Lancaster' - without the quote marks of course - in
the search box and follow the Blanche who was born in 1342.

Dear Alina,

Every ruler of England since Henry IV has been descended from John of
Gaunt. Here is the list up until 1500:

Henry IV, son of John of Gaunt
Henry V, son of Henry IV
Henry VI, son of Henry V
Edward IV, great-grandson of John of Gaunt thru his maternal
grandmother Joan Beaufort, Gaunt's daughter
Edward V, son of Edward IV
Richard III, brother of Edward IV
Henry VII, great-great grandson of John of Gaunt thru his maternal
grandfather John Beaufort, Gaunt's grandson

And on down to the present Elizabeth II.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, --------Brad

Dear Alina,

Every ruler of England since Henry IV has been descended from John of
Gaunt.

What about Oliver Cromwell?

And every ruler of Scotland since James II, through Joan
Beaufort, John of Gaunt's granddaughter.

Grammatically, it should be 'Who' begat whom...(for clarity's sake).
Cheers

Well, yes, if you insist on "throne". But then there was
Cromwell, who as far as I see (in genealogics.org) wasn't
his descendant.

Or you could just give the short answer, which is: everybody since Henry IV
took the throne in 1399. The House of Lancaster (Henrys IV, V, & VI) were J
of G's direct, male-line descendants, of course; while the House of York
(Edwards IV & V, plus Richard III) and the Tudors (Henrys VII & VIII, Mary
I, & Elizabeth I) had female-line descents from John through his Beaufort
children. Everybody since then, of course, has/had a female-line descent
from the Tudors, or the Tudors & the Stuarts, or the Tudors & the Stuarts &
the Hannoverians, and so on.

True. And even that doesn't count the present monarchs of Norway, Luxemburg,
the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, and Belgium, not to mention the
former Royals of Prussia (&, after 1871, the German Kaisers), the former
Yugoslavia, the last Tsars of Russia, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, France. .

Dear Alina,

What about Oliver Cromwell?

He was offered the Crown but he declined it so he was never "on the
throne" referred to by Alina. However, which particular throne (England,
Scotland, France et al) was not specified.

Ann:
Isabella of Castile's paternal grandmother was Catherine of Lancaster,
daughter of John [& 2nd wife Constance of Castile].
Her mother's paternal grandmother was Philippa of Lancaster, also
daughter of John [& first wife Blanche of Lancaster].
