Gytha of England / Vladimir, Grand Duke of Kiev

Gytha was married to Vladimir before 1077, since at least one of her children
Mstislav is specifically stated to have been born in 1076.

But was she married to him before her father was killed at Hastings in 1066 ?
It would make sense, as that would be an advantageous marriage you would
think, but after Hastings, what purpose would be served by marrying her?

Thanks
Will

According to Baumgarten, Généalogies et mariages occidentaux des Rurikides
du Xe au XIIIe siècle, _Orientalia Christiana_ 9/1 (1927), Vladimir II was
born in 1053 and married Gytha ca 1070.

Foreign princesses were usually welcome at courts where few of them visited,
and their attractiveness as brides might have nothing to do with political
circumstances far away.

It should also be kept in mind that, even if her father had lost power
in England, Gytha was still close kinswoman to King Svein Estrithson.

Exiles seem to have had no difficulty in making good marriages.

After the murder of Edmund Ironside, his sons Edmund and Edward went to
Hungary and married a daughter of the King of Hungary and a niece of
the Emperor Henry III.

After the Battle of Hastings, Edward the Exile's daughter Margaret fled
to Scotland and married Malcolm III, King of Scots.

It is unlikely that Gytha would have gone to Russia before her father's
defeat. Harold's sons are said to have gone to Ireland.
