Back in May, when I posted the text of a letter I intended to send to
GBR, I mentioned ...
3. Page 298 (Arthur Storer and Mrs. Anne Storer Truman Skinner). I've
noticed that Edward Storer of Buckminster, father of Arthur and Anne
Storer of Maryland, had a first marriage, per extracted IGI, 31 Oct.
1637, at Wysall, Nottinghamshire, to Mary Widmerpole of a gentry family
covered in Dugdale's 1662-64 Notts. Visitation (see enclosed
photocopies). I suppose this means that Arthur Storer's sister Anne
may have been by the first wife Mary, rather than by Catherine
Babington. Would there be any royal lines for the Widmerpole family?
I no longer have access to James Trabue's Storer article in TAG a few
years back. Could anyone give it a quick check to see if it's *proven*
there that Anne Storer was daughter of Catherine Babington and could
not be the daughter of Edward Storer's earlier wife, Mary?
The 1662-64 Notts. Visitation mentioned traces back only as far as Mary
Widmerpole's parents: "George Widmerpole of Widmerpole in Com. Nott.,
died circa ann. 1628," and his wife "Jane daughter to Fermyn Russel of
Toucester in Com. North'ton." Some of their ancestry is showing,
however, in the two Google Books refs. below, and seems fairly
interesting:

Widmerpole and Wysall, Notts., in relation to Bunny, Notts. (where the
baptism of Edward, son of Edward and *Catherine* Storer, occurred per

Re: Widmerpole and Russell ancestry for Mrs. Anne (Storer) (
The TAG article shows Ann Storer born circa 1642
- the parish registers are missing for that period.
Her father Edward died a few years later, in 1644.
The birth year of 1642 makes her age 16 at the birth of her daughter
Martha.
The will of Humphrey Babington, briefly mentioned in the article,
names nephews Edward & Arthur Storer & their mother Katherine Clarke,
but nothing seems to be said of Ann Truman Skinner.
Perhaps the TAG editors have something to say about this.

Re: Widmerpole and Russell ancestry for Mrs. Anne (Storer) (
Dear John ~
It appears that Anne (Storer) (Truman) Skinner was born about 1642, as
indicated by her tombstone cited below:
Here lyeth Mrs. Ann Skinner first Relict of James Truman Gent,
afterwards of Robert Skinner, who died 3 of August 1717 aged about 75
years having lived near half the time a Widow (Tombstone, Basil Duke
Farm, ca 2 mi. from Prince Frederick).
If Anne Storer's brother, Edward Storer, baptized in 1641, was the son
of Katherine Babington (as indicated by his baptismal record you've
already cited), I assume Anne Storer who was born about 1642 was
Katherine Babington's child as well.

Re: Widmerpole and Russell ancestry for Mrs. Anne (Storer) (
Hello Douglas,
Well I'll be dogged. Guess she was a daughter of Catherine Babbington,
after all. Check out the entries in the extracted IGI from Muston,
Leicestershire, less than 10 miles directly north of Buckminster,
Leics.:
Elizabeth Truman, daughter of James and Anne, bapt. 1 May 1660
Martha Truman, daughter of James and Anne, bapt. 9 Jan. 1662
Anne Truman, daughter of James and Anne, bapt. 16 March 1664
Also, the (apparent) first marriage of James Truman to Sarah Watson, 12
June 1656.
Edward Storer presumably had a childless first marriage to Mary
Widmerpole.

Re: Widmerpole and Russell ancestry for Mrs. Anne (Storer) (
Although it is a little bothersome she's not named in the will of
Humphfrey Babington, and didn't name a child Catherine.
Mary Widmerpole, on the other hand, had a sister and two grandmothers
called "Anne."
If the age on Anne Skinner's gravestone was off by as little as four
years--aged 79, rather than 75--she could have been Mary Widmerpole's
daughter.
But at least we no longer have her giving birth to a daughter at age
16!
