Was Edith Toxteth wife of Richard Tarleton (d. 1555) of Faza

Piecing together bits of VCH Lancaster 3 I was trying to decipher the
identity of Edith, wife successively of (1) Richard Tarleton (d. 1555) of
Fazakerley (in Walton) and (2) William Lathom.

In 1544 Henry Tarleton of Fazakerley (father of Richard) and John Toxteth of
Aigburth (in Allerton) and Garston were involved in a dispute over lands
touching Garston manor with Sir William Norreys of Speke (lord of this area and
kinsman of John Toxteth). John Toxteth died leaving by his wife Alice two
daughters and co-heirs: (1) Anne Toxteth who married William Brettargh of
Little Woolton; and (2) Ellen Toxteth, whose marriage Sir William Norreys of Speke
claimed and married her to Richard, son and heir apparent of Henry Norreys
of West Derby.

Edith, widow of Richard Tarleton, with her second husband William Lathom
[ward of the heir of Richard Tarleton] and her sons William and Edward Tarleton,
continually held an interest in lands in Fazakerley, Aigburth, and Garston.
Richard Tarleton's IPM taken years after his death made no mention of his
holding any lands in Aigburth and Garston, but a claim to those lands certainly
shows up among his descendants by Edith as well as with her second husband.
William Brettargh and his wife Anne Toxteth released lands in Aigburth and
Garston in 1570 to William Lathom. These later show up as part of the
inheritance of Edith's younger son Edward Tarleton (d. 1626) of Aigburth.

Due to the land tenure and multi-generational interaction [coupled with the
chronology of events] I thought it looked possible that Edith was a sister of
John Toxteth, and therefore a daughter of James Toxteth of Aigburth and
Garston by his wife Alice Norreys, a daughter of Thomas Norreys of Speke. Does
anyone have any input that might disprove or support this?
