May I make an observation? I feel everyone contributing (or lurking) have their own individual reasons. I think many simply are trying to find their own ancestors, whereas others may have different reasons, and this makes, in a way, a good mix. But it seems that those looking for their own ancestors are the majority (nothing wrong with that), but it would be more interesting if we could somehow also work together to achieve other things, things that may last and benefit other people who, perhaps today, are not interested in genealogy as yet. That is why the Henry project is so important as well as the collecting of CP errors by Chris Phillips. Years ago Peter de Loriol remarked he was collecting ES errors but I have never seen a result from that, at least CP and Henry show something lasting.

The point that different people have different aims is also important, especially when people with different spheres of knowledge and interest can contribute to others. That is why we united are stronger than having sub-groups.

Several people make remarks about language barriers but I think amongst contributors and lurkers several languages could be accessed (even latin) but people need to ask.
My Dutch is pretty good, my German as bad as my French, but with the last two languages I can say 'help', and usually people (not on gen-med) have been kind and helpful.

Why do people research their ancestry? Again for a varied selection of reasons, perhaps like Sir Edmund Hillary, "we want to know because they are there to be found (or not)". The journey is often more interesting than the arriving. With my own ancestors I have not reached medieval times as yet, and I wonder if I ever will. I know a few stories but they are vague and are not possible (for me) to substantiate.

No I have not been drinking, it is here just late and it is time to go to bed.

With best wishes
