Browning's _Americans of Royal Descent_, 6th ed., p. 409-10:

WILLIAM CAYLEY, lord of Normanton Manor, Yorks, by tenure, second son,
who had:

JENNET CAYLEY, sole heir, who m. (see Dugdale's "Yorkshire
Visitations"), John Lake, of Normanton Manor, and had:

JOHN LAKE, of Normanton Manor, who m. (see Plantagenet-Harrison's
"Yorkshire"), Jane, daughter of Robert Drax, or Drakes, and had:

JOHN LAKE, of Normanton Manor, Yorkshire, whose son,

LAUNCELOT LAKE, of Normanton, m. ("Yorkshire Visitations," 1612),
Margaret, daughter of Henry Twisleton, of Cirdling Park, and had:

JOHN LAKE, of Normanton Manor, who m. Catherine, daughter of John
Peake, or Pake, of Wakefield, Yorks, and had:

LANCELOT LAKE of Normanton Manor, who m. Emma, daughter of Orbert
Northend, of Halifax, Yorks, and had:

JOHN LAKE, of Erby, Lincolnshire, who m. ----Osgarby, and had:

RICHARD LAKE, of Erby, who had by his first wife:

CAPT. THOMAS LAKE, of Boston, Mass, 1655, a merchant and selectman,
(see Boston Evening Transcript, 7 December, 1904). He was described as
of Boston, by his brother, Sir Edward Lake, first Baronet, who named
him in his will, 1665, as executor. He was a captain in King Philip's
war, and was slain in August, 1676, aged 61. He m. Mary, daughter of
Stephen Goodyear, sometime deputy governor of Connecticut colony, and
had:

ANN LAKE ... m. Rev. John Cotton ... [many descendants]

Although, of course, Browning is usually considered a terrible source,
the account above is interesting, because many elements in it can be
verified. For instance, p. 35 of the 1666 Lincs. Visitation, pedigree
of "Lake of Irby & Lincoln," shows a Thomas Lake who had married a
Goodyear (clearly the New England man), with a (half-)brother Sir
Edward Lake, and ancestors from Irby or Erby, Lincs.

Also, the will of Sir Edward Lake, Bt., mentions his ancestor "Sir Hugh
Caley, Knight," and expresses the belief that his ancestors were from
Normanton (a fact also mentioned in his sketch in the DNB [... what
does the ODNB say?]). See

But, anyway, in case anyone can prove the connection back to Normanton,
see Rev. Joseph Hunter, _South Yorkshire_, 2:108, for a pedigree of
"Drax of Woodhall," which shows a certain "Joan [Drax], married John
Lake, of Normanton." This Joan's ahnentafel, as per Rev. Hunter, is
....

1. Joan Drax
2. Robert Drax, of the Wood-hall
3. Catherine, 2 w[ife]. dau. of William Mirfield
4. John Drax, esquire, serjeant at arms to king Henry V
5. Margaret, dau. and coh. of Thomas de Barley, by Isabel his wife,
dau. and h. of John of the Wood-hall.

This line can possibly be taken a little further back on p. 62 of

I looked at the will of Edward Lake, which was proved in the PCC in
1675.
It does not specifically say that his brother was "in New England".
Of course, wills often fail to specify such things.
However, the same family connections are briefly described in TAG 64:
197.

I was unable to find a will for Richard Lake of Erby, the father of
these two brothers.

For a lot more on the ancestry of Joan (Drax) Lake, see p. 103 of this
