_RootsWeb: GEN-MEDIEVAL-L Thomas James (1620-1696) of East Hampton descended
from Lee family of Quarrendon_

Lipscomb's History and Antiquities of the County of Buckingham (London,
1847) in its pedigree of Lee of Quarendon, p. 405, lists the wife of Richard Lee
of Quarendon (d. 1499-1500) as "Elizabeth, dau. and coh. of William Saunders,
Esq. of . . . . Co. Oxon." Glover's Visitation of Cheshire 1580 (London,
1882), p. 136, lists his wife as "Anne d. & heire to William Saunders."

I have a copy of the will of William Saunders of Agmondesham (alias
Amersham), Buckinghamshire, recorded 10 Jun. 1488, but am having trouble transcribing
it. The only legatee I can decipher is his wife Isabella. I am wondering
if he might be the father of Richard Lee's wife.

Richard Grenewey (d. 30 Jan. 1551/2), Esq., was granted Amersham manor, and
his mother was Elizabeth Lee (d. 24 May 1539), wife of Thomas Grenewey (d. 26
Apr. 1538), Esq., of Dinton, was a daughter of Richard Lee of Quarendon.
This might explain the family's interest in Amersham (Agmondesham) manor.
